It's been a busy few months, but not with much to talk about.

Rehearsals for "The Producers" started mid-July. That's going well so far!

Work has been weird. I've been working on a few very different projects for very different products. I've found it a bit stressful. Hopefully one of them will be in pretty good shape soon so I can stop worrying so much.

There's always something a little scary about starting something new. There are a million little choices to make and each one of those may make you curse yourself months or years later. Life is much better after the decisions are made and you can see what's working or not. Fixing mistakes feels better than guessing for me, I suppose.

Just thought I'd pop my head in after seeing that I got a shout out in this week's news post. Maybe I'll have some time to snipe some more low hanging fruit in DW's 'zila in September. DW/LJ code still feels very foreign to me, but throwing myself at foreign-feeling code is probably good for me from a growth perspective. :)

Saturday was peculiar. There was an impromptu drive down to Virginia with my boss to see one of our big clients star in "My Fair Lady". I'm very critical of these sorts of things, but given that this was the group's first musical and it was community theater, the production wasn't bad. They had some very strong leads.

It's nearly the end of the month. The project I wanted to complete this month hasn't even started due to scheduling conflicts and external dependencies. Sad.

My verbosity will be the end of me. I have a private entry that I started detailing why ruby's Marshal class doesn't serialize subclasses of Hash in a sane way. It was getting long winded and not interesting to read, so I think that will stay private indefinitely.

I've finished up another term with mixed results. All I need is Calculus II to finally be free from academia forever. Not entirely sure how fiscally that's going to work out. I have a few things to work out.

Work is shifting a little. For the past year I've been finishing up a bunch of half-finished projects on a huge kitchen sink webapp that I had been off-and-on working on for... 7 years now? Wow. Soon I am going to be starting on a brand new project which is a welcome change.

FIRST!

I've been [livejournal.com profile] cpm at LiveJournal for a bit over 8 years. Even though it had a bit of a reputation for being a place where whiny emo kids would wax poetic, I thought the company and the product was awesome. Everything was relatively transparent, the company was strongly against ads and other clutter, and everything was open sourced so you could submit patches if you were so inclined. What more could a geek ask for?

I hardly know anyone who still uses LJ. I have a permanent account, but I've noticed the free user experience has worsened over time. Most people I've read have moved on.

So, new beginnings. I stopped writing for the most part a few years ago. Maybe a new venue bust my cycle enough to get started again.
